15 Lush Solo Piano Arrangements
We have recently discovered the wonderful piano arrangements of Al Lerner in his book Memorable Jazz Standards. Al is one of those pianists who can make us all sound great without the complex and difficult passages. This book is perfect for making intermediate pianists sound as if they’ve been playing for years, with its elegant voicings of harmonies, subtle variations of the melody line, and elegant connecting phrases and fills. Al has also recorded each of the fifteen renditions. On the CD, which is included with the book, he demonstrates so well how to move an arrangement along, how to phrase, how to sound like a pro. This book is a grade level easier than Memorable Jazz Standards, yet no less effective. Although we have graded it Intermediate, there are many creative nuances and ideas for more advanced players as well, to incorporate into their own playing, and to help anyone create a pop style. From Erroll Garner’s Misty, and Irving Berlin’s Always, to Henry Mancini’s Moon River, these are the kind of songs every pianist should know. You will enjoy each and every one!
